He was born in Kirksville, MO to the late William "Carl" and Carol Mathis and recently preceded in death by his sister, Kathi Jones. Tom was a proud alum of the University of Missouri before embarking upon a successful career with UMB Bank rising to Senior Vice President, Consumer Services. His love for banking was surpassed only by his love of family and friends. Tom is survived by his wife, Jane Mathis and his brother, Wayne Mathis. He is also survived by his three children and his two granddaughters.
A Celebration Tom's life will be held at Johnson County Chapel on Saturday, April 26th 4:30 -5:30 pm, with an opportunity to share memories of Tom starting at 5:30 PM. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, http://www.cff.org/.

Condolence & Memory Journal

The Bible compares death to sleep.

It speaks of 'falling asleep in death.'

Psalm 13:3

Prior to resurrecting his friend Lazarus, Jesus explained to his apostles: "Lazarus our friend has gone to rest, but I am journeying there to awaken him from sleep." Jesus did just that. The Bible says that when he called the man Lazarus, that been dead came out from the "memorial tomb-fully alive once again.

Jane and family
My heart goes out to you in your loss. Tom was such a delight to work with at UMB. I learned so much from him in my first few years at UMB. On a personal note, I did not know he was from Kirksville and wish we could have shared that common point as I graduated from High School in Kirksville (one of my classmates was Janet Mathis - not sure if she is a relative). Please keep in touch.
All my love,
Christine Pierson

Jane and Family,

Sorry to hear of Tom's passing. Tom was a good husband, father, and friend to all. We have many fond memories during our Hawk's Family Football days. Tom will be forever remembered as the eager parent on the sidelines, even losing his voice at times, helping to encourage the boys. Our deepest sympathies to you at this time of great loss. Sincerely your friends, Robin and Jan
